The Renaissance Photo Safari

Snow capped Cosimo's dome as I traveled to Florence, Italy. Cosimo De Medici finished this exact dome in the Renaissance period, and now I was seeing it for real for the first time. I was amazed by the fantastic architecture Brunelleschi had created. It was only partially done when Cosimo had become ruler. With Brunelleschi's help he had finished it.

Next we saw a fresco painted by Michelangelo during the renaissance. It is a fresco of the creation of Adam. It is legitimately in the Sistine Chapel in Florence.

  

                                                                                                                                             

 This is Donatello's David. We went to see this next. This is the first free standing sculpture made in the renaissance. It is made of bronze and is currently in the Bargello Museum. Near David's feet, the head of Goliath lays dead. It was amazing to see such great artwork that was made so long ago.

This is a painting by Botticelli that we went to see next. It is a painting of the birth of Venus. Botticelli was painter that worked for the Medici, but also ended up burning some of his art in the "Bonfires of the Vanities" held by Savonarola.

This is the Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo da Vinci. Made from 1503-1519, the Mona Lisa is an oil painting on poplar. It is currently in Paris, France
